“Song in 3” was written as part of the Brian Eno Songwriting Workshop by School of Song. The writing prompt was to compose a song using a time signature other than 4/4. The song’s structure was randomized by choosing two chords, flipping a coin 64 times, and based off of heads or tales, that was the chord sequence.
The lyrics were based off of an exercise in a “Learning Spanish” language book. I chose the sentences that resonated with me and arranged them into a narrative. The secondary voice (a pitch adjusted version of myself), was recorded to create a dialogue with the primary voice.
The artwork an illustration of a photo I took from my bedroom overlooking Ocean Avenue, the street mentioned in the song.
